Living With Colon Cancer

In February 1995, I was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer Stage III.

My world collapsed!

I have four very wonderful kids and a supposedly good husband. I was given 52 weeks of chemotherapy and 28 days of radiation. I had my usual share of nausea and vomitting. I lost almost 60 pounds and looked like a skeleton. My mother and my four kids have been my pillars of strength.

In between the 52 weeks of chemotherapy, I took Chinese herbs prescribed by a Chinese Physician from Bukit Batok. I believe that chemotherapy helped to eradicate the cancer cells and the Chinese herbs that I took was effective in strengthening my immune system. I am still undergoing my quarterly checkup with my oncologist and my Chinese Physician who are now my close and personal friends. I have regained the weight I had lost after I was inflicted with cancer and I look and feel wonderful.

The only drawback was that after all those trying periods, I discovered that my husband of 23 years was cheating behind my back. I submitted my petition to divorce him in November 1999, but he is still giving my four kids, my mother and I living hell to this day. Not only has he refused to give us financial help, he even contested the divorce. He continuously creates setback after setback. I had to attend numerous hearings at the Family Court. Even the matrimonial assets and ancillary matters are still unresolved. I am now jobless and in financial difficulties. But through all these, I have found strength to overcome the day to day obstacles. All thanks to the unconditional love of my four kids and my mother, and a positive attitude in whatever I do. I've realised that nothing is impossible.
