You must feel confident and comfortable with your doctor. When you are in
doubt, ask questions and don't take anything for granted. My late mother
received her initial treatment at a private clinic run by a well-respected local
oncologist. She did not feel comfortable with him and his nurses. Subsequently,
she decided to seek treatment at a local restructured hospital.
As a patient, you must trust your body signals for better or worse and inform
your doctor accordingly. You must be pro-active and take charge of your
treatment whenever possible. Based on our experience, some doctors adopt an
indifferent attitude towards the progression of your illness. You have to look
out for symptoms and inform them to take action.
If you are keen to participate in clinical trials, check with your doctor on the
availability of suitable trials and on assessment of your eligibility. Unfortunately,
my late mother did not qualify for any such trials.
