Cancer Is Not Without Cure

I would like to share this with all cancer sufferers and their caregivers.

To many "cancer" is often a dreaded word associated with imminent ending to a person's life on this earth. So often we hear of people who died or dying of cancer in our daily lives. Friends, relatives are suddenly struck with cancer but there seems little we can do except to give them our condolence or sympathy or support in one form or another.

I live in Sydney, Australia and was diagnosed with cancer of the liver in late November 2001. My surgeon confirmed that it was primary hepatocellular carcinoma after the usual CT scans, tissue and other tests, and was given about six months to live. I was also told that the size of the tumour was too large to be operated on and they could only offer chemotherapy treatment which has a only success rate of 20-30 percent.

Being a Christian for many years, I guess it is easier to take all these in its stride, because of our willingness to accept it as "God's will" and remain positive and take things as they come, one day at a time.

I also did what most cancer patients do like trying to find out what kind of nutritional food I should take to help my condition and other stuff or exercises that would do me good. I was told to keep a strict diet eating mainly green vegetables, fruits, nuts and avoid oily food, dairy products and take only sugar and salt without any artificial colouring. I had to force myself to drink at least six glasses of boiled water. I took the advice and seems healthy enough although I know that I am losing weight gradually due to lack of a balanced diet.

I then had my first chemotherapy treatment in February 2002 and after six weeks the x-rays showed that the tumour has not reduced much although it was comforting to know that it has not grown any bigger either. I was later introduced to take up "Tai Chi" which would help breathing and blood circulation. I found it very invigorating and really enjoyed it and is still practising it.

Sometime in April this year, a close friend told me that her friend who had cancer was completely cured after joining a Christian praying and healing ministry sponsored by a local church and asked me to have a discussion with the person looking after the ministry in Sydney. Initially I was quite reluctant to go as I know that all my friends and relatives who are Christians have been praying for me all the same. However, out of courtesy I went and this person showed me a book written by an American oncologist entitled "How you can get well". The main thrust of it was that the mind actually controls the body and the root cause of cancer is largely 'stress' which is transported to our mind which in turn causes the malfunction of the body parts. It is critical that the mind be rid of all emotional problems, hurts and worries to stay healthy. But how can we do it on our own?

It is easier said that done I told the elderly clergyman. Yes, he agreed and then he showed me two books written by him entitled "Healing is within you". He said, "With God nothing is impossible." It is a question of "faith" and "believing". He quoted to me scriptures taken from Hebrews 11 "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence not seen" then Mark 11:24-25 "Whatever things you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them. And when you stand praying, forgive others as your Father in heaven may forgive you your trespasses." and finally from James 5:14-15 - "Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church and let them pray over him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up, and if he had committed sins, they shall be forgiven him."

Although I know and have heard these scripture verses before, they had never struck me so vividly as then and I prayed the prayer of faith and truly believed that God who is able to heal will restore me fully. The critical thing is to exercise the faith in God and believe without any doubt that we can be healed of all diseases and God has healed us. These are some of His promises which are clearly mentioned in the bible. All these verses reinforces our dependency on God and as we do that, our mind is relieved of all anxiety, worries, hurts, unforgiveness which are constantly bombarding our sub-consciousness and creating havoc to our body immune system. Our mind needs the peace and rest so that it could perform its functions properly.

A few days after my accepting this healing from God, I received a phone call from my oncologist telling me that x-rays showed that the tumour in my liver had reduced in size from 12cm to 10cm. My doctors are all very pleased with the results. Praise God for His healing!

To all Christians, I hope that you will be encouraged to know that healing is available to all of God's children. To those who do not know Christ, there is hope too as God has opened the door for all to come in. The decision is yours but it must be remembered that one should not seek God just for cure but rather because we realise that we are all sinners. We need to repent of our sins and accept Jesus Christ the Son of God, as our personal Saviour who died for us on the cross of Calvary so that our sins can be forgiven and that we may have eternal life in Heaven.
