Family Bond
|
This is a painting of a banyan-tree : Indian fig, whose branches come down to the ground and take root.

(Work of Mr Loy Chye Chuan) |
Moral lesson :
The main trunk represents the parents and branches represent their children and descendants. The main trunk
is sturdy because the branches which have grown and become rooted nearby or across the bank, remain "connected" to
the main trunk. These connections depict the strong bond of love among family members, which is the best thing that has
happened to the human creed. Sadly, such a bond is missing when children are ungrateful and fail to repay the kindness of
their parents. Confucian philosophy holds that a good family is the basis of a good society, and a good family is based on
parents' love for their children and children's devotion and obedience to their parents.
Food for thought:
If you have failed to fulfill your duty to your parents, your children are likely to follow your example.
Word of advice :
It's time to show your gratitude to your parents before it's too late. Remember that life is unpredictable and it can
'expire' anytime.
