Taiji Quan and Health (by Ms Lee Yuh Chin)

People feel stress and strain from the fast-paced modern life nowadays. Studies have shown that stress imposed variable effects on the immune system, which may affects tumor growth in the body.

In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) theory, diseases arise from three types of causes: internal, external, and other causes. The internal cause of disease is emotional imbalance. Any emotional imbalance affects the movement of Qi (energy flow). Therefore, TCM holds that the mind directly affects the body. Therapy for any mental or emotional imbalance may improves the treatment outcome for many physical diseases.

Taiji quan, known as "moving meditation", is an ancient Chinese martial art that involves physical and mental exercise. Its movements are coordinated with deep breathing, which could relieve us from heavy stress and lead to relaxation and calmness of our body and mind.

Taiji quan plays a significant role in preventing and treating tumor growth, because :

Taiji practices --> Relaxation and Calmness -->Smoothen blood circulation -->
Maintain active metabolism -->Invigorate immune system

Taiji quan is one of the best and simplest forms of exercise. The conviction and testimonies of millions of Taiji quan practitioners all over the world are a strong indication of its effectiveness and benefits. Undoubtedly, regular practice of it can maintain good physical and mental health for quality life.

Personal Profile of Ms Lee Yuh Chin

Ms Lee Yuh Chin has been practising Yang's Style Taiji Quan that contains 37 postures and 64 movements since 1988. Being a trained physician in Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM), she advocates TCM's view on the body, mind and spirit as interconnected.

She practises Taiji Quan, also known as "moving meditation" in order to maintain good health, relieve from bad stress and achieve relaxation and calmness of the body and mind.

In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) theory, diseases arise from three types of causes: internal, external, and other causes. The internal cause of disease is emotional imbalance. Emotional imbalances cause aberrations in the movement of qi (energy flow), which in turn, leads to a variety of physical symptoms. As Taiji Quan originated from Taoism's philosophy of "yin-yang theory" and qi (internal vital energy), by learning and practising Taiji Quan, the flow of qi and blood circulation will be smoothened to maintain active metabolism and invigorate the immune system.

Her Taiji Quan's teacher, Mr Wee Kee Jin, a gold medalist in the 1989 World Cup Martial Arts Championship, is one of the four students who had the opportunity to live and study Taiji Quan on a full-time basis(1983-1988) with the late Taiji Quan's Master Huang Sheng Shyan(1910 - 1992), founder of Singapore Tai Chi Association and over 30 Taiji Quan schools throughout South-east Asia.
