The Amsler grid may be helpful in revealing signs of wet age-related macular degeneration (ARMD). However, use of the grid is not a substitute for regular eye tests.
Instructions :
- Do not remove the glasses or contact lenses you normally wear for reading.
- Stand approximately 33cm from the grid in a well-lighted room.
- Cover one eye with your hand and focus on the centre dot with your uncovered eye. Repeat with your other eye.
- If you see wavy, broken or distorted lines, or blurred or missing areas of vision, you may be displaying symptoms of ARMD.
Note : If you wish to get a clearer image, please refer to page 25 of "Understanding sight problems" that is available at the National Library.
